Ticket Stub Of The Day Aug.31st (New Kids On The Block)

Today's ticket stub is from the time I saw the New Kids On The Block in concert. This show was in 1990 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton. I took a lot of ribbing from my friends and my brother for going to this, lol. I took my sister (Kim) to this show for her 12th birthday. She was a huge fan of the band and the show was sold out well in advance, but I was able to score two tickets the day of the show. I will never forget how surprised and happy she was when I told her I had tickets for the show, and we were going.

I have to say, I am not sure if I had ever heard the Coliseum so loud in my life, with 17,000 screaming girls, the place was a jumping, and wow, lots of glow sticks too. I killed some time at the show walking around the top concourse of the Coliseum smoking black hash. All and all, I made my sister a very happy girl that night.

The day after the show, I saw this cartoon in the newspaper. I think the artist must have seen me at the show. As Judas Priest had just played the same venue two days before.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Aug.30th (Nine Inch Nails)

Today's t-shirt is from the Nine Inch Nails show I saw at the Pemberton Festival in 2008 with my buddy Hurl. Nine Inch Nails were the headlining band on Friday night, and wow, were they ever good. It was my first time seeing them live, and they didn't disappoint. They sounded good, very heavy and had a wicked light show as well.

During the show, we saw an older gentleman at the back of the crowd, probably in his early 60's, a local resident would be my guess, dancing away to the music, just having a really good time. It was cool to see someone like him getting down. Not only that, but he sure did have the girls crowding around him, dancing with him and giving him high fives. You could tell he was having fun. Excellent show and good times!!!

Concert Poster Of The Day Aug.29th (Misery Signals)

Today's poster is from the free Misery Signals show I saw at Megatunes, which was a record store on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton. The show was in the basement of the store, the place was packed with probably a couple hundred people down there, which made for a very hot and sweaty venue. I believe this show was in 2004. A very cool show this was. Good times!!!

KISS Collectible Of The Day Aug.28th

Today's KISS Collectible is the god awful KISS album "Crazy Nights" that was released in 1987 on Mercury Records. There really isn't a decent song on the album. I recall seeing them in concert in Edmonton on this tour with opening act Anthrax. Needless to say Anthrax stole the show.

I just picked up this album on vinyl a couple of weeks ago at Sound Connection. The album is in good shape and even came with the album sleeve and inserts.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Aug.27th (Pemberton Festival)

Today's t-shirt is from the Pemberton Festival my buddy Hurl and I went to in Pemberton, British Columbia in 2008. It was a twelve hour drive from Edmonton to get to this festival, but what a fucking time it was. Well worth the time and money. It was the first time they had put on the fest and unfortunately the last too. While the fest wasn't run all that well, with long waits to get on to the site, although, the way we got there, we had no wait. But if you were coming to it from Vancouver, it was a nightmare. Hurl and I had an absolute blast at this festival, partying hard for 2 days and seeing some wicked bands, and few bands that I had never seen before. An awesome line up that included the following bands that we caught.

On the Friday night we saw... Nine Inch Nails (this was the first time I saw them), Serj Tankian of System Of A Down (first time seeing him solo), Wolfmother (2nd time seeing them), Kathleen Edwards (first time seeing her).

Saturday we saw...Tom Petty (first time seeing him),The Tragically Hip (12th time seeing The Hip), Flaming Lips (first time), My Morning Jacket (2nd time), Sam Roberts (3rd time), Secret Machines (2nd time) and Black Mountain (first time).

After two days of hard drinking and among other things, no shower, covered in dust and a wicked hang over, we woke up Sunday morning and decided to call it a day. It was going to be a 3 hour wait before bands started and it was raining, we said the hell with this and made the twelve hour drive back home.

This was one of the best weekend I have ever had, good times, awesome bands, great location for a festival. I just wish they were still putting on this festival, I would have gone again. Good times!!!

Concert Poster Of The Day Aug.25th (Terror)

Today's poster is from the time I saw California hardcore band Terror play at the Starlite Room in Edmonton in 2008. I went to this show with my brother (Citrus) and his wife Erin. My brother got us on the guest list for the show. Other bands on the bill were CDC, Trapped Under Ice, Death Before Dishonor and Warriors. We only caught a bit of the Warrior and the Terror set. It was an alright show, not really my thing.

Concert Poster Of The Day Aug.23rd (Embrace Today)

Today's concert poster is from the time I saw hardcore bands Blacken and Boston band Embrace Today and local band Stronger Than Blood play at Stars in Edmonton in 2003. I went to this show with Liz, whom traveled from Calgary to come to the show. I don't remember too much about the show.

Concert Shirt/Poster Of The Day Aug.22nd (Sleeping Girl)

Today's t-shirt is from the time I saw local rockers Sleeping Girl open for Nova Scotian native, now based in Winnipeg Greg MacPherson at the short lived live music venue in Edmonton called Lyve On Whyte in 2010. I have seen Sleeping Girl quite a few times, they always put on a good show and it was my second time seeing Greg MacPherson in concert. Not a bad show, good venue for a concert, but the bouncers at the show were dicks. It's no wonder the place didn't last long.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Aug.21st (Mary Prankster)

Today's ticket stub is from the time I saw local metal band Mary Prankster play a show at Rock Central Station in Edmonton. This show was in 1992. Rcok Central was a dive of a bar but a fun place to see a show, and if the band sucked, which Mary Prankster didn't, but if so, you could always go upstairs to the peeler bar Pinky's. All and all this was a fun show what I remember of it. Good times!!!

Concert Shirt Of The Day Aug.19th (W.A.S.P.)

Today's t-shirt is from a concert I didn't actually see, but was able to pick up the t-shirt at Sound Connection in Edmonton. It is from the W.A.S.P. European tour in 1984, this would have been for their debut album. I was huge W.A.S.P. fan in the 80's and just had to have this t-shirt when I saw it back in 1984. The shirt didn't go over well with my parents for reasons that don't need to be explained. I remember the first time I tried to wear it and my Mom saw it. She asked why I would wear a shirt with such offensive language on it. I said I wasn't aware of what it said, liar, she saw through that in a hurry and asked me to never wear it around her, which I didn't. I actually never did wear this shirt anywhere, just kept it as a collectors item. I did have a friend in High School at the time (Geoff) who asked if he could wear it to school. I said sure, as long as he didn't get it taken away. He did wear it to school, but ended up getting suspended for 3 days for his effort. It is a classic shirt.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Aug.18th (Slayer/Megadeth)

Today's ticket stub is from the Canadian Carnage Tour I saw in 2009 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. This tour consisted of Megadeth and Slayer as headliners with Suicide Silence and Machine Head opening. This was my fifth time seeing Megadeth in concert and third time seeing Slayer live. It was a great night of old school thrash metal, I missed Suicide Silence but saw the other three bands. Slayer stole the show without a doubt. Good times!!!

Concert Shirt Of The Day Aug.15th (Megalo)

Today's concert shirt is from a band out of Montreal. While I never got to see the band in concert, my brother (Citrus) was a roadie for them in the early 90's around eastern Canada and the U.S.A. He sent me this shirt after one of the tours.

Ticket Stub Of The Day Aug.14th (Nestor Pistor)

Today's ticket stub is from the time I saw Ukrainian comedian Nestor Pistor perform at Santannas in Edmonton in 1995. Nestor is a local comedian that has toured all over Canada for many years, but this was my first time seeing him live. I went to this show with my Dad, his buddy Skip and my friend Geddy who is also Ukrainian. Geddy is the one who introduced me to Nestor Pistor many years ago listening to his comedy albums which are hilarious. We all had a great time at this show with the laughs a plenty and the beer a flowing. Geddy was talking back to Nestor in Ukrainian which made him a focus of the crowd which was a touch embarrassing but also very fuckin' funny. It was a good thing my Dad was the designated driver, because by the time we left this show, we were all inebriated big time. Good times!!!
